This is a very broad question. It could mean *What is your favourite thing in the whole world?* or "What is your favourite thing that you own?* or *What is your favourite thing to eat?*
It could mean anything. So the best answer is just to name something that you like. Anything that you like.

It is quite a vague question.
If someone said "What is your favorite food?" you might answer "My favorite food is pizza" or simply "pizza".
It is not really a very normal question to just say "What is your favorite thing?". Alternatively, you might say "Which one is your favorite?" if you are given a choice.
